¿Qué es el vitíligo?
El vitíligo es un trastorno cutáneo por el cual se producen manchas blancas en diferentes partes del cuerpo debido a la falta de pigmento conocido como melanocitos (células responsables del color) en la piel. Las áreas que tienen más probabilidades de verse afectadas por el vitíligo son la cara, el cuello, las manos, las piernas y los genitales. Sin embargo, esta afección cutánea se ha observado en distintas ocasiones en membranas mucosas, como la piel del interior de la boca y la nariz, y a veces puede desarrollarse en el cuero cabelludo provocando que el cabello en la zona se vuelva blanco.
¿Cuáles son los tipos de vitíligo?
El vitíligo puede manifestarse de tres maneras diferentes en el cuerpo:
- Vitíligo generalizado: Despigmentación generalizada de manchas que aparece de forma simétrica en ambos lados del cuerpo. Este patrón es el tipo más común.
- Vitíligo focal: Despigmentación de una o varias manchas en una sola área de la piel, más común en las rodillas, dedos, codos, zona lumbar y genitales.
- Vitíligo segmentario: Despigmentación de una o varias manchas en un lado del cuerpo. Este patrón es el menos frecuente.
¿Qué causa el vitíligo?
La causa de esta enfermedad cutánea aún se desconoce, aunque algunos estudios señalan varios factores contribuyentes, como reacción autoinmune, estrés, genética, exposición a ciertos químicos, causas virales y quemaduras solares. Sin embargo, el vitíligo tiende a ser más común entre personas con hipertiroidismo (glándula tiroidea hiperactiva), anemia perniciosa (deficiencia en glóbulos rojos) e insuficiencia adrenocortical (las glándulas suprarrenales no producen una cantidad suficiente de hormonas esteroideas). Es importante tener en cuenta que estas teorías no han sido probadas hasta la fecha. También es importante señalar que esta enfermedad cutánea no es contagiosa y no puede transmitirse de persona a persona.
¿A quién afecta el vitíligo?
Se estima que el 1% de la población mundial tiene esta afección cutánea. El vitíligo suele desarrollarse en personas entre los 10 y 40 años y es raro diagnosticarlo en lactantes y ancianos. No tiene límites étnicos, raciales ni de género y se ha encontrado incluso en las zonas más remotas del mundo.
¿Cómo afecta la calidad de vida?
Aunque no se ha demostrado que el vitíligo cause problemas médicos, dolor o irritación, no obstante esta afección cutánea a menudo deja a los pacientes con un número devastador de cicatrices emocionales y psicológicas, especialmente en quienes presentan vitíligo en áreas expuestas como la cara o las manos. No es raro que las personas con esta enfermedad cutánea se sientan estigmatizadas y avergonzadas. Muchas pueden sentirse devastadas, ansiosas, deprimidas y preocuparse continuamente por su posición social así como por sus opciones laborales debido a la excesiva preocupación por el juicio negativo que sienten que otros tendrán de ellas por su apariencia física. No hace falta decir que, para numerosas personas con esta condición, la baja autoestima y la falta de confianza en sí mismas son una batalla diaria.
Tratamiento (melagenina plus)
Tratamiento del vitíligo: Hay una serie de treatments que pueden ayudar a mejorar la condición cutánea de las personas que padecen vitíligo. Uno de estos tratamientos es Melagenina Plus, un ungüento desarrollado en Cuba por Dr. Carlos Manuel Miyares Cao. Dr. Carlos Miyares Cao es mundialmente reconocido y tiene un doctorado en Medicina por la University of Havana, Cuba con una especialidad en Ginecología, Obstetricia y Farmacología. En la década de 1970, mientras estudiaba el metabolismo de la placenta, descubrió una sustancia que estimula la producción de melanocitos (los pigmentos responsables del color en la piel, los ojos y el cabello). Posteriormente desarrolló Melagenina Plus mezclando una extracción alcohólica de la placenta humana con Melagenina y cloruro de calcio. De hecho, este ungüento se considera el medicamento para el vitíligo más cercano a una cura, ya que actúa estimulando la reproducción de melanocitos alrededor de los bordes y/o dentro del área afectada por la enfermedad. Cuando se aplica correctamente, se pueden observar resultados en 3 a 7 días. Además, Melagenina Plus es segura y puede utilizarse en niños, mujeres embarazadas o en periodo de lactancia y en personas mayores sin efectos secundarios. Sin embargo, es importante tener en cuenta que ningún tratamiento es eficaz al 100% y que el éxito de Melagenina Plus depende de la edad del paciente; del tiempo que el paciente ha padecido vitíligo; de la parte del cuerpo afectada y de la correcta aplicación del ungüento. Hi my name is Libertad and I live in Wisconsin. I was diagnosed with Vitiligo shortly after fighting cancer. That was on 2017 when my hair felt off because of the cancer treatment, I discover that my scalp was all brown and white and i discovered a bigger spot on my neck. I had a few different medications prescribed here and nothing has work. My brother who lives inPanama started using the melagenina lotion as it was prescribed to him by a cuban doctor and his skin is back to normal. That dermatologist does not practice in Panama any more but I am interested on purchasing the lotion. What can I do?
